SUMMARY OF POSITION 

This position is responsible for pulling and preparing new materials for new jobs.  This position is in Northstar’s Warehouse Department, and reports to the Supply Chain Manager.  The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not direct the work of other employees. This is a full-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Pull raw material, from inventory, for new jobs
  • Communicate to purchasing any material issues which will impact the smooth flow of production
  • Perform sawing, shearing, and circle shear raw material in preparation for production
  • Operate forklift and pallet jacks as required
  • Support production through the manufacturing process as required
  • Maintain accurate work orders and ensure that all jobs are accompanied by work orders
  • Work with quality control and production leads on any potentially late projects
  • Report to the production manager any equipment that is inoperable or in need of maintenance
  • Keep manufacturing work areas clean and organized at all times
  • Expedite work to the production floor where necessary
  • Maximize efficiency at each work center by moving work in process into each work center and finished goods out of the area
  • Work with drivers to load and unload trucks and ensure it is stored in the proper location
  • Make sure material for each job is on schedule and in the proper location
  • Prioritize jobs through the release process
  • Identify areas for process improvement, cost and waste reduction
  • Participate on teams to address and correct problems which arise
  • Participate in 5S in the area
  • Driving products as needed to suppliers and customers

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

  • Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and seeing
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, twisting, bending and repetitive motion
  • Occasional sitting, writing and typing
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                                  

Education Required:  High School diploma or equivalent experience

Experience Required: 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment

Must have a drivers license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

  • Able to read work order instructions and carry out directions as necessary
  • Able to work in an efficient and timely manner, multitasking where necessary
  • Able to think ahead to the next step in the manufacturing process and anticipate future needs at each work center
  • Must have solid computer skills and be capable of learning the current software system to accurately follow orders and hardware
  • Have well developed organization, communication, and planning skills
  • Must be a confident and driven team player who is able to work with little supervision while being able to multi-task and prioritize easily
  • Must have a solid mechanical aptitude and a sense of urgency
  • Must be willing to abide by established policies, plans, methods, procedures, deadlines, and priorities
  • Highly professional with scheduling / planning experience in a manufacturing environment a plus
