ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

• Setup and operate on a diversified range of gear tooth grinding operations requiring considerable judgment to plan and perform.  Close and exacting tolerances, angles and contours. 
• Responsible for selection of correct wheels, feeds and speeds and correct and very accurate alignment of trimmer box and centers.
• Setup and operate a wide variety of gear tooth and grinding equipment from blueprints or process sheets.
• Must be able to set up and operate Gear Tooth Grinder. 
• Must be able to select proper holding devices. 
• Performs finish inspection with use of special gaging equipment.
• Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.
• Required to have knowledge of what grinding wheel needs to be used for certain types of materials.
• Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of machine operation.
• Study blueprints and work orders to determine product specifications.

• Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and seeing
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
• Frequent reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, twisting, bending and repetitive motion
• Occasional sitting, writing and typing
• Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
• Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
• The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                    

• Must have 3 years experience in Gear Tooth Grinding/OD Grinding. Familiarity with Kapp, Niles and Holfer’s and have a good understanding of blueprints
• Must know speeds and feeds for different types of material.
• Must have experience with inspection tools such as micrometer, gauges, calipers, etc.
• Problem-solving skills
• Mechanical aptitude with the various types of tools used in the machining process
