SUMMARY OF POSITION 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing administrative support to Northstar’s Site Controller and Finance department.   This position will maintain and update accounting/finance records ensuring timeliness and accuracy, and is responsible for assisting in a key capacity with month-end close, account reconciliations, forecasts and budgets, expense management and other analytical tasks. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • For the monthly close process, prepare standard journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly balance sheet, income statement and cash flow; consolidate and upload all financials into Hyperion
  • Prepare the weekly rolling 13 Week Cash Flow Forecast and provides explanations for significant variances
  • Update and issue daily report of cash activity, balances for cash and revolver loan
  • Prepare monthly expense analysis and review variances with management
  • Maintains the CSI Fixed Asset system and related depreciation
  • Balance intercompany accounts and updates quarterly tax schedules
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Assist with quarterly and annual reports
  • Gain knowledge with government contracting regulations FAR, DFAR and CAS
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s financial policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Coordinate and manage requests from external auditors
  • Work on other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                                  

  • Education Required:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting.  MBA or CPA certification considered a strong plus
  • Experience Required:  2-5 years of accounting experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting concepts and theories used in the business environment
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to various levels within the organization as well as to external customers and vendors
  • Strong Microsoft Office and overall computer proficiency with Excel
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Proficient in self-review to ensure accuracy
