ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

• Setup and operate diversified Spiral Bevel Gear grinding operations requiring considerable judgment to plan and perform for sets involving complicated setups. 
• Must be able to set up and operate Bevel Gear Grinders and Generators.
• Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of machine operation.
• Maintain accurate tooth form, backlash, and mounting distance.
• Close and exacting tolerances, angles and contours. 
• Setup and operate a wide variety of gear generating and grinding equipment from blueprints or process sheets.
• Must be able to select proper holding devices, cutters, and lubricants.
• Performs finish inspection with use of special gaging equipment.
• Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.
• Required to have knowledge of what grinding wheel needs to be used for certain types of materials.

• Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and seeing
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
• Frequent reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, twisting, bending and repetitive motion
• Occasional sitting, writing and typing
• Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
• Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
• The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                    

• Must have 3 years experience in Spiral Bevel grinding, generators, and gear testing.   Familiarity with Gleason and Phoenix’s.
• Read and interpret complicated prints and drawings.
• Use decimals, fractions and shop mathematics.  Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
• Mechanical aptitude with the various types of tools used in the machining process
