SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position is responsible for inspecting complex parts using CMM equipment and inspection tools such as dial bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, bridge and height gauge, etc. The Final Inspector is to ensure that discrepant parts are appropriately documented and only parts meeting customer requirements (blue prints) continue to manufacturing processes or customers.  This position is in Northstar’s Quality Department, and reports to the Quality Supervisor. The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary, but does not direct the work of other employees. This is a full-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Ensure safe work practices are applied and that work environment is equally safe
  • Must have GD&T knowledge and capable of reading and interpreting complex blue prints
  • Able to program CMM for complex machined parts using Calypso program (knowledge of PCDMIS is acceptable)
  • Perform in-process inspections using Zeiss Prismo CMM per documented requirements and reports on all discrepancies
  • Perform first article inspections and completes all associated documentation
  • Support internal machinists with measurements, problem resolution and print interpretation
  • Inspect machined parts from internal and external sources for compliance to print requirements using CMM, hand tools, surface plate, and other instruments
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, indicators, profilometers, dial bore gages, thread gages and pins
  • Read and interpret prints including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Complete DIP (Detailed Inspection Plans) and other AS9102 related documentation
  • Ensure that product processed meet customer quality standards

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

  • Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and seeing
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, twisting, bending and repetitive motion
  • Occasional sitting, writing and typing
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent experience. Associates degree or completed apprenticeship from an accredited trade school a plus
  • Experience Required: 3-5 years' experience of dimensional tolerance inspection (Y14.5) of aerospace products

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

  • Ability to work with all levels of workers in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be able to multi-task work assignments
  • Knowledge and skills to set up and use measurement equipment, gages and other inspection tools
  • Knowledge of the gage capability and understanding of tool calibration.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (dimensioning and tolerancing)
  • Have a good working knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Have good working knowledge of AS9102 Forms 1,2 AND 3
  • Able to work extended hours including weekends and holidays
  • Highly attentive to details, effectively work with peers based on set priorities
  • Must be proficient with inspection tools (height gauge, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, surface plate inspection, etc.)
  • Be an effective communicator and able to interact with other departments and management
