SUMMARY OF POSITION 

Analyze quality problems to identify root causes and implement corrective action. Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to control manufacturing processes and develop standard work. Develop and implement continuous improvement programs covering production processes and quality management systems. Eliminate the causes of quality issues and reduce the risk of failure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free production environment.
  • Implement and assure conformance to Manufacturing and Quality Control plans and related specification requirements.
  • Review audit results and findings as needed to determine best course of action for corrective countermeasures and future risk mitigation.
  • Using Risk Management techniques such as PFMEA, Control Plans and SPC to ensure the continuous adequacy of the Manufacturing Plan and its application to producing acceptable product quality while meeting product cost goals.
  • Interface with supporting departments to maximize product producibility.
  • Focus on improving process capability of key manufacturing processes, including machining (grinding, lathes/mills, debur) and special processes (heat treat, plating, NDT).
  • Lead and participate in the Quality Clinic in the achievement of real-time MRB dispositions and facilitation of RCCA processes.
  • Concurrence of MRB Engineering dispositions.
  • Facilitate effective and timely root cause and corrective action to maintain product losses within budgetary requirements, and correct the cause of related Customer complaints and dissatisfaction, meet costs, manufacturing losses, and non-conformance reduction goals. Oversee corrective action activity and provide direction to meet goals.
  • Facilitate training of newly deployed quality processes to required personnel.
  • Provide effective corrective action to control losses using 5-Why analysis and other problem-solving techniques such as PFMEA.
  • Provide input to optimizing inspection methods and costs; be sensitive to Quality Assurance cost goals and measurements; provide cost reduction methods with values engineering initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate with Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, and Shop Supervision in resolving technical problems.
  • Control of processes related to tool design, N/C programming and implementation of new equipment, both manufacturing and inspection/testing, as well as providing cross-functional involvement and Quality Engineering support to production.
  • Establish standard work to create a level of excellence that must be attained by Management and Production Shop to continually meet the customer requirements for product integrity at optimal Quality cost. Monitor Quality cost of non-conformance trend charts.
  • Prepare monthly Quality metrics to support CARM Board, Management Review, and Quality Reviews.
  • Assist with supervision of various product quality assurance activities, for example, receiving inspection, in-process, final, NDT etc. as required with adherence to Employee Standards of Conduct.
  • Investigate and analyze production defects, safety issues, and employee concerns or complaints.
  • Recommend process and safety improvements in line with important company-wide goals and objectives.
  • Identify training needs and work with the training coordinator to arrange required training.
  • Provide key input for performance appraisals and compensation evaluations.
  • Assist in identification and disposition of nonconformances, and prepare collective analysis of new and recent nonconformances with primary focus on those requiring customer MRB review.
  • Support the implementation and execution of Operator Self-Verification (OSV).

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.)
  • Regularly required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Manufacturing Engineering/Precision Machine Shop environment; thorough knowledge of Quality principles, materials & processes, including assembly & test experience.
  • QA field as applicable to methods & procedures related to military & commercial standards; knowledge of GD&T; must possess proven capability & initiative to function in a high technology environment; ability to interface with administration, management and customers

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
