Northstar Aerospace has implemented new safety protocols for all employees during the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the United States. This includes mandatory mask usage within the building, distanced workspaces, daily temperature checks for employees and visitors and nightly disinfection of our facility. Employee and visitor safety is Northstar's top priority.

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

This position is responsible for the maintenance and attendance of the tool crib.  This position is in Northstar’s Operations Department, and reports to the Production Supervisor.  The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary but does not direct the work of other employees. This is a full-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below.  This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Maintenance and handling of Northstar owned, as well as customer-furnished, tooling, molds, mechanical components, and fixtures
  • Log data on the current software system to insure the accurate traceability of all tooling
  • Lead teams to address and correct all tooling problems which arise
  • Communicate with Customers on all customer owned tooling issues
  • Full understanding of quality procedures and work instructions and working within the guidelines of the quality procedures and work instructions.
  • Management of 5S in the tooling area
  • Required to fully understand Northstar’s quality procedures and work instructions and work within the established guidelines
  • Receives, stores, and issues machine tools, materials, and issues tools and equipment to workers and maintains records of tools and equipment issued and returned, manually or using computer.
  • Ability to sharpen carbide tools (i.e. boring bars, radii and flat bottoms)
  • Inspects and measures tools and equipment for defects and wear, visually or using a calibrated Tool Setter.
  • Selects proper holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and sets them to the proper length.
  • Create Purchase Requisitions for materials/tools.
  • Uses CNC programs from engineering and build tool kits for setups of jobs on CNC mills and lathes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will not direct the work of any other employees.

  • Frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing and seeing
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, twisting, bending and repetitive motion
  • Occasional sitting, writing and typing
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of product and/or parts
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent exposure to moderate to heavy noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED                         

Education Required:  High School diploma or equivalent experience

Experience Required: 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

  • Candidate must have basic computer skills and be capable of logging data using the current software system to insure accurate traceability of tooling
  • Must have excellent organization, communication, and planning skills
